CFA Organizes Aksyon Kabataan 2017

On May 24 to 26, 2017, the Communication Foundation for Asia gathered 15 youth leaders for a training-workshop on Social Movement. For the first three workshops, they were given basic inputs on good governance, leadership, the role of the youth and multimedia skills for political engagement. The latest workshop armed them with the capability to transform their advocacy into a structured and sustainable social movement. CFA President Fr. Fil Pelingon, MSC gave the inspirational message. He stirred-up the interest of the youth leaders by saying: “You are going to address social issues that you are passionate about.”

These were the topics discussed and resource persons during the three-day training-workshop:

  • 1. “Social Movement 101” and “Advocacy 101” by Ms. Tinay Mercurio, CFA Publications Department Head;
  • 2. “Christian Leadership and Organizing Towards Transformation of Society, Social Movement and Advocacy” by Fr. Ben Alforque, MSC, CFA Training and Spirituality of the Heart Department Head; and
  • 3. “Creative Communications” by Ms. Pie Fenomeno, CFA Vice President for Operations

The lectures were supported by workshops wherein the youth leaders identified three major advocacies they would like to work on, and then planned and developed these into concrete programs. As a culminating activity, they were able to create the following social movements:

  • 1. Lend a Hand to Save the Earth (Environment);
  • 2. Loser No More (Anti-Bullying); and
  • 3. Food is Life (Health and Wellness).

The lectures were supported by workshops wherein the youth leaders identified three major advocacies they would like to work on, and then planned and developed these into concrete programs. As a culminating activity, they were able to create the following social movements: CFA will be monitoring the progress of these movements onwards.
