Now it’s down to the best ten songs in the “Awit ng Mga Bagong Bida”, the youth songwriting contest launched by the Communication Foundation for Asia in cooperation with CEAP, SLB and CMN.

After a week of grueling scrutiny by a panel of composers, arrangers and lyricists, the finalists of the 1st National Youth Song Writing Contest have finally been selected from dozens of entries nationwide.

Judges and the organizing committee were wowed by the courage and profundity of the messages and the ingenuity of the music, proving that our youth are not only talented but also concerned with the country’s well being. The genres varied from rap to acoustic to slow rock and metal.

The ten finalists, according to the announcement by the CFA organizers, are the following:

The compositions have been recorded professionally and will be played over CMN (Catholic Media Network) radio stations nationwide and on the CFA website. Listeners will be able to vote for their favorite songs from October 6 until 6:00pm of November 27, 2009. The total votes will form part of the overall final scores of the entries during the final competition on November 28 at Assumption Antipolo with celebrity guests (matching the songs’ genre) jamming with the composer’s selected band.
