CFA Tapped to Help Promote Use of ASEAN Intranet

Dec 2nd 2016

T he Communication Foundation for Asia was commissioned by the Jakarta-based ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) to create media materials that would promote the use of AIPA Connect – AIPA’s intranet system.

A subset of ASEAN, AIPA seeks to orchestrate the lawmaking bodies of ASEAN’s ten member countries (of which the Philippines is one) to drafting laws leading to an ASEAN Community – similar to the European Union – by 2020.

AIPA Connect was set up with funding from the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) (German Society for International Cooperation). Working in behalf of the German government, GIZ promotes economic, ecological, and social development worldwide.

AIPA Connect is meant to serve as the tool by which AIPA members could share information. For some reason, intended users are not drawn to using the intranet. Since its launching some three years ago, less than 40 persons are counted as regular users of the system.

CFA was tapped by GIZ to produce print and video materials that would “demystify” the use of AIPA Connect. GIZ and AIPA will go on a tour of the member states starting March 2017 to campaign for increased use of the system. The media materials to be produced by CFA will be used during this tour.
