"Publications Staff Conduct Campus Journalism Workshop in Zambales

Mar 30th 2007

Art and editorial staff from CFA’s Publications Department became resource speakers and facilitators in a Seminar-Workshop on Campus Journalism that was successfully held in Iba, Zambales on February 8-9, 2007. More than 70 elementary and high school students of St. Augustine’s School attended the activity. Sr. Ma. Remedios R. Cayetano, SPC, School Principal, commended the CFA staff for the stimulating lectures and practical advice they gave to the school’s budding journalists.

Joseylen de Leon, Assistant Editor of Jesus Magazine, handled the lectures and workshop on the components of journalism for elementary students. Palanca awardee Renato C. Vibiesca, who is Editor of Baby Jesus Magazine, managed the sessions for high school students. Illustrator Rocel Siena treated the young students to an educational and entertaining presentation of editorial cartooning, while in-house photographer Joy Jimenez presented valuable insights on photo-journalism. On-the-Job-Trainee Jairreme Villanueva ably assisted the Publications staff in the presentations.

St. Augustine’s School is one of CFA’s long-time partners in the media mission for evangelization. After the workshop, Sr. Remedios decided to increase the school’s subscriptions of CFA publications Barkada Magazine, Jesus Magazine and Baby Jesus Magazine.

The Publication staff later gathered other high school students on campus for Barkada Magazine’s Peer-to-Peer interview activity and some elementary students for the Pambata Magazine section Kids’ Speak.

Before returning to Manila, the staff took time to visit and photograph some historic places, landmarks and cultural activities in Zambales. Their visits included President Ramon Magsaysay’s Ancestral Home, the Subic Naval Base, and a showcase of local crafts of Zambales. The staff also managed to get an interesting interview with the Aetas, which will be featured in a future issue.
