In the face of cyber negativity, fake news and political trolls, CFA partners with Out of the Box, yFact and Assortedge in the effort to teach social media generations the basics of cyber ethics: RESPECT FOR EACH OTHER, CRITICAL THINKING and CITIZENSHIP. Thus, “Diskurso”, a media conference in support of media literacy week was held last October 27, 2017 at CFA Lagerway Hall.

Over 116 Senior High Students from different schools in Metro Manila attended the said media conference. Fr. Filoteo Pelingon, MSC, President of Communication Foundation for Asia gave the key note speech about Media Literacy while Mr. Marlon Nobrado (co-founder of Out of the Box) discussed OOTB’s special briefer about media literacy in the Philippines. Ms. Arizza Nocum (Head of Kristiyano Islam Peace Library) talked about how the youth can participate proactively within the 21st century environment and Rowena Paraan (Head of ABS-CBN’s Bayan mo, I-Patrol mo) expounded on the critical issues faced by a journalist in these trying times.

Media Literacy is one of the projects CFA will endorse in 2018 and this involves the publication of Media and Information Literacy (MIL) materials for Senior High School (SHS), Training and workshop series and partnership with educators, friends and influencers.

Who We Are

Communication Foundation for Asia is a pioneer in development communication. It was established in 1968 as a non-stock, non-profit organization, but its origins go way back to 1960, when the Social Communications Center was born with the publication of the Philippine Catholic Digest. Both organizations were founded by the Dutch missionary, Fr Cornelio Lagerwey, MSC, in collaboration with his mission partner Genaro V. Ong.
