The Father And The Son Are One
26 March 2010
Today’s Readings: Jer 20:10-13/Jn 10:31-42
REFLECTION
The testimony of Jesus is weightier than that of John the Baptist. The works which the Father has given to Jesus to finish and in the process of completing testify that the Father has sent him. These “ works “ refer to all of Jesus’ ministry and the “ signs “ he performs, among which is turning water into wine. These signs point to the climactic work of redemption achieved in the cross and the glorification of the Lamb of God.
In today’s Gospel, all that Jesus does and says are the works of the Father which demonstrate that Jesus is a notable human being. But those who see these works are meant to realize something more – the intimate relationship between Jesus and the Father. All that Jesus does is what the Father gives him to do. When we are able to understand this Father and Son relationship we will be able to realize that everything Jesus does simultaneously attests to who he s and who the Father is. We must know Cchrist before we can believe in him as sent by the Father. We may only know him if we understand the signs that he does.
PRAYER
Loving Father give us the grace to know and understand that you and your Son Jesus are one. Deepen our faith and believe in your word. In Jesus’name we pray, Amen.
