Today’s Readings: Gn. 28:10-22 / Mt. 9: 18-26
When Jesus exhorts the long- suffering woman he is of course speaking not about trust in oneself but in God’s readiness to save. From such trust arises authentic courage in oneself as the object of God’s loving care. Faith in God pushes the woman to dare to touch even the minutest part of Jesus’ clothes. Despite her timidity, Jesus regards the woman as a person worth of respect. He gives her his full attention and heals her of affliction. Freed from her illness, she is now back in the circle of life. She is cured not because of the miraculous cloak but because of her trust in God and faith in Jesus. God restores to life all who believe in Jesus.
Today’s Gospel tells us that Jesus attracted many followers from all walks of life- just like anyone of us. Many of us are not comfortable with his teachings. None of us understood his words fully. All of us experience a change within ourselves and we begin to think about our destiny in a new way.
Loving Father. We praise and thank you for giving us the faith to trust in you. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
