Today’s Readings: Gn. 32:23-33 / Mt. 9: 32-38
Jesus goes around towns and villages sharing God’s words and healing people. Jesus sees God’s people harassed by so – called religious leaders as sheep are harassed by dogs and wolves. He longs to gather them back to God’s fold. By showing compassion for the distressed flock and the lost sheep, Jesus is presenting himself as the righteous shoot of David, the messianic king from David’s line who will rule God’s people with compassion. Jesus mighty deeds and his words also serve to divide people between those who see God at work in him and those who regard him as manifestation of evil.
In today’s Gospel, Jesus teaches us that it is only with the eyes of faith that we are able to see that all his works manifest the power of God.
In our own way, we are challenged to help others find their way back to God. With faith in God, we are called to influence others to change their direction and go back to God- who never stop calling us to him.
Loving Father, give us the grace not to get tired of caring for your flock. May Jesus the Good Shepherd continue to give us strength and inspiration-to follow and do what pleases you. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
