Shine Like The Sun

Today’s Readings: Ex 33:7-11; 34: 5-9 / Mt 13:36-43
REFLECTION
The sowing of the good deeds in the fields refers to Jesus’ teaching and healing ministry. Doing the will of the Father, he gives hope to the outcasts, raises the dead to life, welcomes sinners, gives light to the blind. But even as he manifests God’s unconditional goodness, people still remain stubborn. On the last days evildoers will finally be purged from God’s kingdom, the righteous in contrast will shine like the sun.
In today’s Gospel, Jesus reveals himself as the Son of God who judges all our deeds on earth. His Sonship is connected with obedience, his life and ministry are revealed to the “simple ones”. Recognizing his Sonship is but one-step in the path to imitating his passion.
Jesus challenges us to imitate God’s goodness to humanity and do everything we could to help purge the world of evil.
PRAYER
Loving Father, help us to exercise authority in a humane and loving way. Give us the grace that we may be able to protect the little ones whom God has placed under our care.
In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
