Understanding by Design (UbD) for Christian Educators” is the theme of CFA’s 22nd Annual Catechetical Congress to be held at the Lagerwey Hall on April 15 to 20 and on May 13 to 18, 2012.This will feature a more intensive follow-up workshop to the topic introduced in last year’s Congress, which proved very popular with participants. UbD is the method now endorsed by the Department of Education to facilitate better transfer of learning by focusing on the capacity of the young to understand. For this reason, UbD is also the approach used by CFA for the educational magazines it regularly produces for thousands of elementary and high school students nationwide.

The main resource person of this year’s Catechetical Congress is Ms. Chuchie Pacia, the consultant and personalized education program expert of Saint Pedro Poveda College. Three days of the 5 ½-day Congress will be devoted to her lectures, discussions and workshops on the application of UBD principles to Christian Living education.

The other resource person will be CFA’s training and production specialist, Fr. Stephen Cuyos, MSC.His lecture/workshop will be on “Film for Christian Educators.”

As in the past years, the participants will be treated to a cultural night to be held on the fourth evening of the program. This event remains one of the highlights of the yearly Congress because it is the occasion when participants show their creativity and artistic talents as a manifestation of God’s gifts.

Held yearly in two batches in April and May, the Congress aims to provide catechists, pastoral workers, Christian Living and religion teachers with updated methodologies, approaches, and techniques in teaching. According to Ms Evelyn Alinea, the head of the CFA Catechetical Resource Center (CRC), this holistic approach to learning is one of the legacies that the Foundation. continues to share.

Registration is ongoing for the two schedules stated above. There is a Congress registration fee which includes lodging and meals for five days (Please click here to download the registration form).

For more information, please contact CFA-CRC at telephone numbers 7132738 or 713-2981 to 86locals 151 and 152 or email: catechetics@cfamedia.org.

Who We Are

Communication Foundation for Asia is a pioneer in development communication. It was established in 1968 as a non-stock, non-profit organization, but its origins go way back to 1960, when the Social Communications Center was born with the publication of the Philippine Catholic Digest. Both organizations were founded by the Dutch missionary, Fr Cornelio Lagerwey, MSC, in collaboration with his mission partner Genaro V. Ong.
