CFA Gave Recognition to Partners during the 2nd Lagerwey Awards

The Communication Foundation of Asia (CFA) launched and organized an award called Lagerwey Awards to celebrate the work that their Founder Fr. Cornelio Lagerwey, MSC started. This is to affirm CFA’s mission to use media for total human development and to give recognition to individuals and institutions who share this mission.

The 2nd Lagerwey Awards were done virtually with live streaming on the CFA’s Facebook page last May 5, 2022. The categories for the 2nd Lagerwey Awards were:  (1) Peace; (2) Social Justice; (3) Democracy and Social Accountability; (4) Environment Stewardship; (5) Youth Engagement; (6) Transformative Digital Citizenship; (6) Community Building; (7) Families in Mission; and (8) Values Formation. 

The submitted entries were judged according to the following criteria: (1) Quality of message; (2) Innovative use of media platforms; (3) Translation into action (community engagement); (4) Sustainability / Continuity of the advocacy project.

The said event was hosted by Ms. Alma Aro and Fr. Jericho Natividad.  In the first part of the program, CFA recognized two outstanding partners, Mr. Perry Paul Lamanilao of Pathways to Education and an Advocasea Fellow and Professor Ricardo Nolasco of 170+ MLE Talaytayan, Philippines.

This was followed by the main part the presentation of the Communication Excellence Awards.

Dr. Hemmady S. Mora was the awardee for Democracy and Social Accountability category for her Democracy, Media Literacy, and Voter’s Education Program. Mr. Van Jorain Rufin for his Youth for Peace Movement; for Social Justice category. Mr. Zhander H. Cayabyab for his “Trip: An HIV/AIDS Awareness Video Series”; for Peace and Community Building category. Mr. Rod John Pandili for the Lumon Community Association; and Ms. Marilou Pantaleon for the Heart Start Educators for Lifelong Learning, Inc. – Home Study Program for the Dumagat Learners, for the Values Formation category. 

A Special Citation Award for Democracy and Social Accountability was given to Mediantics, the official media organization of AB Journalism students at the University of Rizal System-Angono for their “Bakit ka Nag-Journ?” Fun Survey. The program was also joined by the Diocese of Dumaguete and Batingaw for special performances.

In this event, CFA recognized all the individuals, groups, and organizations who exhibited communication excellence in various projects which are in line with their advocacies.
