CFA Plans New Environmental Projects

Jan 28th 2012

The Communication Foundation for Asia’s commitment to pursue the thrust towards environmental protection was re-affirmed by its management group in the recent CFA Strategic Planning meeting held on January 17-18 this year. The various departments of Training, Electronic and Print Media came up with project ideas on green forums and video documentaries, as well as stories in CFA’s regular children’s magazines. The Foundation’s renewed concern came after analysis and discussion of the increasing number and severity of calamities that have hit areas in the country where such disasters had not previously been experienced.

During the meeting, it was reported that CFA has taken steps to strengthen its networking and cooperation with environment advocacy groups. Recently CFA has become a member of Green Convergence (GC), a broad social movement which includes close to 50 environmentalorganizations and networks, including Alyansa Tigil Mina (ATM), Network Opposed to GMOs (NO to GMO), EcoWaste Coalition), Concerned Citizens against Pollution (COCAP), Philippine Federation for Environmental Concerns (FPEC), Environmental Education Network of the Philippines (EENP), Justice, Peace, and Integrity of Creation Commission – Association of Major Religious Superiors of the Philippines (JPICC-AMRSP), and the Youth for Sustainable Development Assembly (YSDA). Several of these groups have participated as resource persons in CFA’s previous ‘Coffeehouse’ Environmental Forum series, held from 2007-2009.

CFA shares Green Convergence’s vision of a “synergy of multi-sectoral organizations, communities, and individuals who constantly will work for safe food, healthy environment and sustainable economy as the cornerstones of sustainable development”. To make the relationship even stronger, CFA looks to partnering with GC in its planned project of holding environmental fora and documenting best environmental practices among communities in the country.
