Peace-ing It Together

Apr 16th 2010

Beats and chants. Hues and tints. Angles and shots. Gestures and dialogue. All fusing together into one united call for peace from 36 young Christians and Muslims.

For the third time since 2006, the Communication Foundation for Asia brings together Christian and Muslim high school students in a one-week summer peace camp featuring workshops on art, music, dramatics, photography and slideshow. And for the first time, one of the schools participating in the CFA Peace Camp is from Mindanao — the Notre Dame-RVM College of Cotabato. The other two participating schools have been part of CFA’s previous Camps — the Ramon Avanceña High School and the Nazarene Catholic School, both located in Quiapo.

The theme of the 2010 Peace Camp is “Communicating Peace: Celebrating Filipino Unity in Diversity” and will be held on April 19 to 24, 2010 at the CFA compound in Sta. Mesa, Manila. This year’s Camp is once again organized by CFA in cooperation with the CBCP Episcopal Commission on Interreligious Dialogue, the participating schools and the Young Moro Professionals Network.

As in previous camps, the kids will discover their common roots as Filipinos while appreciating their religious and cultural differences. Through the communication workshops, they will find meaningful and creative expressions of their desire for unity and peace. Their workshop output will then be part of an exhibit that will be brought to various schools and institutions in the country, including a video documentary and educational interactive CD.
