CFA Launches Gospel Komiks Collectors’ Edition

OCT 20TH 2006

To celebrate its 25th year of publication, CFA’s Gospel Komiks has come up with a Collector’s Edition of Gospel Komiks. It is an anthology of the best stories in the history of Gospel Komiks, selected from over a thousand stories of the past 25 years. Most of the stories speak of hope, compassion and healing. Many of them are winners and finalists of the esteemed Catholic Mass Media Awards.

The launching of Gospel Komik’s Collector’s Edition took place on October 14th during the Catholic Media Fair at the Megatrade Hall in Megamall at EDSA. A highlight of the lively event was the showing of the documentary on The Making of Gospel Komiks. This 10-minute video outlines, in a light and comical way, the process of publishing every Gospel Komiks magazine and bringing it to the readers. It also briefly tackles the history of Gospel Komiks. CFA also showed an excerpt of the pilot episode of the Gospel Komiks TV Series, which will be broadcast on TV Maria starting November 4th. The featured comic story is titled “Mulagat”, which tells of the story of a blind boy whose faith in himself, his mother and God remained strong despite his disability.

The launch was well attended by authors of the stories featured in the Collectors’ Edition and by subscribers of CFA publications, as well as CFA executives and staff. CFA President Fr. Filoteo Pelingon, MSC, was there to give the opening invocation. The publication of the GK Collectors’ Edition was made possible through the support of Feed the Minds – UK.

Through the years, Gospel Komiks has consistently been at the forefront of media for values education of the youth. In serving young people, Gospel Komiks follows the CFA tradition of quality and innovation, being the first local comics magazine to feature creative contemporary stories based on the weekly gospel. It has achieved nine awards and citations from the Catholic Mass Media Awards. At the same time, it has become CFA’s best-selling publication, with more than 200,000 subscriptions nationwide.

The Gospel Komiks has been able to maintain its standard of excellence and relevance due largely to its distinguished stable of past and present editors and writers. The first Editor of Gospel Komiks was Mr. Rey Duque, a Hall of Famer of the Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature who was, until recently, the Editor of Liwayway Magazine. Included in Gospel Komiks’ roster of popular writers is Dr. Luis Gatmaitan. Their work and journey with Gospel Komiks are now brought to light again in the GK Collector’s Edition.
