CFA fights ocean trash at Baseco beach coastal cleanup

9th October 2019

Sixteen (16) staff and family members of the Communication Foundation for Asia were among the estimated 15,000 people who joined the 34th International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) at Baseco beach in Tondo, Manila last September 21, 2019. Government agencies, non-government agencies, environmental activists, private institutions, schools, and residents of Baseco worked together to fight for a trash-free Manila bay. Volunteers went to the Port Area equipped with cleaning materials, gloves, and sacks, which they used in picking up the trash along the coastline.

Several sacks were filled with waste materials, mainly single-use plastics (straws, sachets, spoons, etc.). Other common materials recovered were styrofoams, rubber materials, bottles, and plastic bags. The amount and types of collected trash per sack were recorded.

This year’s massive cleanup gathered people from different sectors and united them for one goal, and that is to fulfill our responsibilities in taking care of our ocean and other bodies of water.
